...getting a passing grade (or rather, an A) in electronics and control theory would have been so much easier...It's an awesome book, built from the ground up, to help you understand - and apply - electrical engineering concepts. The author is a top notch teacher. It's an equally useful read for hobbyists and makers who want to become better at designing circuits, and students who need to absolve their classes.I'm really glad I bought it, and my only regret is that I didn't have it when I was a student. ;)EDIT: I do need to add two small problems I noticed. One is that it was obviously aimed at engineers trying to polish up their skills. It's a revisiting the basics book, however it omits too much to be a good basics book for non-engineers in my view.Also, the part about software is somewhat confused and contains some factual errors. An average electrical engineer's view of operating systems is similar to an average software engineer's view of op amps - that is, dodgy to say the best. ;) Thankfully that doesn't distract anything from the actual technical information provided, which is really good.Still, it's a great book, the five stars stay.

I've gone through literally dozens of books on the topic of Electronics and this isthe FIRST to explain WHY everything is what it is. Because the author does a tremendous job drillingdown on the fundamentals, and expanding on the basic principles, we can then begin to understandas to how it all relates to more advanced topics. I have not yet seen a book on this subjectthat came even close to really explaining what electricity really is, and what it means to problemsolve. Common sense is no more common than paper bags but this book will teach you common senseif you don't have it and leverage the common sense that some do have. I can't emphasize this enough...DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BUY THIS BOOK. I plan to reread it as many times as it takes tocommit to memory. The Fundamentals are all here and explained in an interesting an systematic process thathelps to understand what is really going on with building/testing/troubleshooting circuitry.

This is a gem that needs to be kept on your bookshelf. I absolutely love this book. The Chapter that I enjoyed the most was CH 4 "The real world". Although most of what in the book I learned in my undergrad, Darren's advice on remembering the basics is about the best advice in the book. As a fist year EE in the workforce as long as you understand the basic concepts of the technical aspect of your job you will excel. I can honestly say that although knowing the theory is good, its not quite as good as knowing intuitively why something happens. The other chapter I enjoyed was CH 7. Darren gives some pretty good advice on people to avoid at your job and some pretty good managerial tips. Maybe I need to tell my boss to read that chapter who's not an engineer!

I bought the first edition, and was impressed. As a US Marine Radar Technician and engineering student, I find that so many of us in the electronics fields either never built a solid foundation in the basics of electronics, or have forgotten a lot of the fundamentals. This is a great book for correcting either of those issues.The first edition did have some minor errors. The author, Darren Ashby, makes himself available both here and on his website, and replied to my comments and suggestions. When the second edition came out, I bought it, and gave my 1st edition to a coworker. Now that the third edition is out, I'm going to buy a couple copies and make it required reading for my young Marines. The book is full of good insights and reminders about the important fundamentals and practical aspects of working with electronics.I'm looking forward to seeing the latest updates in version 3, and I would highly recommend this book to anyone who works with electronics.

I wish I could read the formulas without a magnifying glass! The formulas, for whatever reason, on a Kindle (I have Kindle Keyboard and Kindle Fire HD) are too small to read. I can use a magnifying glass on the Kindle Keyboard, with the Fire some are still unreadable.In my opinion Newnes should update the formulas and re-issue the book. Newnes has a number of pricy Kindle offerings, all engineering related, it just seems odd that *this* publisher would have such basic formatting errors.

Darren Ashby really give me so many answers to the mysteries that have always baffled and stress me out with electronics and circuits. After just enough electronics training to create confusion, the recent re-pursuit of an electronics degree feels as if it were catered to with this book. Darren Ashby goes into not only speaking of Boolean Logic in the chapter I have just finished, but he also gives the print of how the actual logic gate looks with hardware!! Its like omg! guys, omg! The thought and explanitions in this book is a great un-confuse-er with electronic circuits.......A great read

Really a good interesting book. May be a good addendum to your text books to help understand the concepts better. Definitely not a text book or by any means all inclusive, but the author has a way of explaining the fundamentals in laymen's terms, that anyone can understand. That alone is worth the price of the book and I can count the number of EE books that do that on one hand... er finger.

I got the book as a basic introduction to electrical engineering. I have messed around with some simple wireing in the past but never really had any idea what I was doing. This book was great, it had enough in depth explanation to cover my ignorance, and enough technical stuff that I had to scratch my head and re-read it a few times. I loved this book and would absolutely reccomend it to anyone looking at entering the field of electrical engineering, or even if you are just interested in becomming a little more familiar with the technical world we live in.

Her development of the world building and characters for this series makes the book both easy to read and attention grabbing. Remy, Blaise’s twin, wants a mate. He definitely doesn’t want to go crazy at the eclipse. Remy, after a night of hanging out with the mated pairs and drinking way too much of Armand’s brew, crash lands in dragon form in the garden of a very posh hotel in New Orleans. Suddenly he gets a whiff of the most delicious scent. The scent of his mate! Lennox, is in the garden, stealing some time away from her disastrous rehearsal dinner and getting cozy with her beignets and cheesecake when suddenly something falls from the sky right in front of her. Remy, takes matters into his own hands, literally picks Lennox up and flies away with her. There are some intense scenes between these two as they learn to mated and mates. These two are sweet and romantic with each other once they get the hang of being in a relationship. Of course there are some sexy scenes between these two! Loved this book! Can’t wait for Ovide and Armand to get their mates!

Love dragons and especially these dragons from another world. Very hot, alpha, exciting, dominating and so much more. Putting them in Louisiana was awesome. It makes the story so exciting to have it in another place then the usual. They know what they want in a mate and when they meet them go after them. Very, very enjoyable read. Highly recommended.

A lonely dragon finds his mate in a strange and awkward way, crash landing near her. It is love at first sight. Unfortunately she is supposed to marry someone else the next day. With much excitement and angst all is well.

Remy is drunk when he meets Lennox. Remy interrupt Lennox wedding because he believes they are mates. Lennox can't seem to tell anyone no, she is a people pleaser. This cause all kinds of problems for the couple.

A great addition to the series. I really enjoyed this story, Remy's love and devotion was so sweet. Loved how Lennox was able to grow into the woman she deserves to be. Highly recommend 👍👍

What a bunch of great characters that keep you charmed, laughing, and heated up ! Half of them are Dragons after all !!!

She teached high school but she is a people pleaser who can't seem to tell anyone no even to the point she is about to marry the wrong guy, he is a dragon shifter who one night drinks too much because of his want of a mate, read to find out all there is.

Remy was a cool dragon! This was a fun story, quick and enjoyable.

A physical copy is BEST for study. I’m entertaining the thought of acquiring at least a private license whilst simultaneously attending EMT school in a few months. This beats reading [the FREE *.pdf] on an electronic device! The quality is that of a book on the shelf at Barnes & Nobles. A+ Nice read for enthusiasts even.

When I read a travel book I want tips. This described the sites and their history. Useless. Tell me where to park. I wanted to go to Kaaterskill Falls. Is it better to park at the top or bottom? Is the trip worth my while? Don't quote me from a 1917 book about the falls, tell me if it's worth my while to view them. Waste of money.

Baptist knows those distortions, and has done his part to clarify the historical record in The Half Has Never Been Told: Slavery and the Making of American Capitalism.The biggest takeaway is that the foundation of the US economy built on slavery. This can't be emphasized enough. Baptist writes that in 1832, "cotton made by enslaved people was driving US economic expansion. Almost all commercial production and consumption fed into or spun out from a mighty stream of white bolls. Politicians and entrepreneurs used the force of cotton's flood like a millrace to turn other wheels." Moving forward a few years, "more than $600 million, or almost half of the economic activity in the United States in 1836, derived directly or indirectly from cotton produced by the million-odd slaves . . . who in that year toiled in labor camps on slavery's frontier."In economics and in the United States's international standing, "Slavery's expansion was the driving force in US history between the framing of the Constitution and the beginning of the Civil War. It made the nation large and unified." And to those who say that slavery would have fizzled out eventually even without the Civil War, Baptist writes, "this is mere dogma. The evidence points in the opposite direction." Slavery was brutally efficient and expanding, and slave owners--and the nation--had every reason to continue the practice.The question for modern Americans is what, if anything, is to be done in response? Put simply, our nation and our economy were built upon theft. Our forebears stole labor and lives, and we all benefit from the economic structures they built. Even with the discrimination and racism that blacks still experience, they, too, benefit from the American system. Baptist's arguments could inform an argument for reparations, but I don't believe there is a way to measure who would get what and from what source they would be paid.As a side note, as someone who grew up in Texas and has felt the disparagement from northerners who believe they hold some sort of moral high ground on the question of slavery and racism, I would point out with Baptist that northerners are no less culpable than southerners. Both north and south benefitted from and enabled slavery. Northern banks loaned the money to enables southerners to buy slaves and land. Northern textile mills bought up the cotton produced by southern slaves. Aside from the very small number of abolitionists, no one in this system escapes guilt.Besides the economic argument Baptist lays out, he frames this history in the context of many slave narratives. He tells the larger story through the eyes of individual slaves and their experiences. Suffice it to say that any slave history that portrays slaves as happy workers who are considered part of the family of the plantation owners, with a few bad apples who whip a slave every now and then, has the story reversed. Doubtless there were some slaves who were treated well. But Baptist describes the brutality of the labor camps, the heartlessness of slave owners who split up families and ship slaves off, and the commodification of the slaves themselves. His accounts of the dehumanizing and demeaning ways slaves were treated will disabuse the reader of any notions of some idyllic workers' paradise.The story as Baptist tells it is powerfully condemning of the slave system--as if any of us need convincing. He demolishes any popular perception of slavery in the American South, especially in the cotton producing work camps, as some sort of benevolent employment. He demolishes any thought that slavery was a dying institution that would have disappeared, and that the Civil War was necessary. I know some historians may disagree with Baptist's conclusions. The content of the first 20-30 pages gave the impression that the book had been mistitled. However, by page 120 I had become convinced that the author had provided an vital resources in in understanding how the dots connected between slavery~cotton~manifest destiny~capitalism~the brutal nature of this peculiar institution. I read heavily on the subject of slavery and found this to be the best treatment to date that I have found to address the connection between slavery and America's rise to become a 20th century superpower. This book was so good that I purchased and listened it on CD after having read the print copy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Edward Baptist makes several strong arguments, some of which turn conventional wisdom on its head. Some of his arguments are difficult to read and go against our preferred versions of U.S.history.He details how American slavery was one of the most productive economic institutions in world history and how the expansion of slavery made the U.S. into a modern industrial empire. He details how slavery, by use of torture and terrorism, increased productivity and made the cotton industry the biggest, most sustained, expansion of the economy in human history.He makes the point that it wasn't just a Southern industry; indeed it benefitted the entire world -- from Northern banks, ship builders and industries that supported slavery (farm implements, whips, ropes, chains, etc) to the textile mills of Western Europe, especially Britain.And he makes a good argument that slavery would not have died if it hadn't been for the Civil War. Indeed, from the founding of the nation, slavery had grown for 70 years at a rate unprecedented in human history. There's no evidence to suggest that such a profitable and productive industry would have ever died out on its own accord. He shows that the cotton industry was never as productive again, after it lost it's use of the whip.Finally, he points out that the South brought about their own destruction. It was they that always pushed for more and more expansion of slavery (even contemplating taking over Cuba and all of Mexico!), which pushed Northerners into fearing for their own loss of political power. The Southern push for ever-growing slavery culminated in the creation of the new Republican Party, formed to not end slavery but to end it's expansion. The South then went to war in order to create its own government based on slavery. Thankfully, they were destroyed.It's a very well written book that not only makes his arguments with well researched historical documents. He also adds powerful voice to the millions of men, women and children who suffered under the bondage of slavery.

I am not very familiar with the What's in the Bible? series. I have seen it but don't know a lot about it.I think it is great there is a series for younger children. These are board books but I'd think they would be appropriate for those aged 4-6. Some young readers may like to try to read them with a little help.At the end of these board books is a section with some ideas for "further connection." This has some good ideas of questions to ask while reading. I like that it ends with "You are so loved by God." What a great reminder for children and adults!I received copies of these books from Hachette Book Group. Thank you.

Ian dawns a cape and proclaims himself ‘Ian the Incredible,' but what makes Ian incredible?This is a cute little book, perfect for young readers just learning to read and any child who wonders whether or not he or she really is incredible.The illustrations are simple and filled with bright, eye-catching colors. The background details are simple enough that they don't distract from the actions of Clive and Ian. Clive and Ian themselves look similar to their puppet counterparts; they even maintain a certain fuzzy look to them.The writing itself is fun and upbeat. He is working to bring multifunctional microsensor technology to the chemical sensing market space.Sumita Pennathur is an associate professor of mechanical engineering at the University of California, Santa Barbara (BS 2000, MS 2001, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; PhD 2005, Stanford University). She has been actively contributing to the fields of nanofluidics and nanoelectromechanical systems (NEMS), and has spent some time at both Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, California, and the University of Twente MESA+ research facility in the Netherlands. When not enveloped in her research work, she can be found either spending time with her husband and two kids or at a local club wailing on her saxophone.

As a student, I actually don't mind reading this book. It's written in a style that is informative, but not like a stereotypical textbook. It's definitely an introductory book when it comes to the concepts it teaches, but it works perfectly for the course I'm using it for (an introduction to nanoscience course). All in all, a good textbook.

It is an OK overview of nanotechnology. There are conceptual errors and some of the presentation does not relate to nanotechnology, although interesting. The chapter end questions are poor, at best. The "back of the envelope" examples do not follow significant figures rules. It seems more like a first edition than a third.
