Review
“Take the hassle out of healthy eating with this new release from expert recipe developer Lindsay Maitland Hunt. A guilt-free guide to nutrition, Healthyish emboldens you to dine on indulgences like shakes and cookies while also showing you how to spice up your salad. Each recipe is fit for both the cooking-averse and pros.” (Real Simple)“What if sweets could be delicious and indulgent but—wait for it—not completely ruinous? Lindsay Maitland Hunt, author of the new book Healthyish, has managed to solve this riddle. Her beyond-simple treats are perfectly portioned so you can’t overdo it, plus they come together in 10 minutes or less and taste divine.” (Redbook)"Each recipe, presented in full color photographs, delivers on the book’s conceptual promise: flexible recipes that turn out just like the pictures and, in her words, make you “feel good, not sad.” Just what we need in January—and beyond.” (Edible Manhattan)"A delicious and dead-simple cookbook for easy meals." (Seventeen.com)“Diet books come and go, but the real truth is that we already know how to be healthier: eat more good stuff and less junk. The trouble, as usual, is in implementation. What Lindsay has done in Healthyish is given us a set of simple, streamlined, well-tested recipes, techniques, and ideas that are designed to fit your schedule and skill level. They’re full of the good stuff with only the occasional dollop or swirl of the junk. The best part: These recipes lead to real food. Not diet food. Not fad food. No miracle ingredients, no promises of X amount of weight lost in Y days, just great food you’ll actually feel like eating (and most importantly, you’ll feel good about eating).” (J. Kenji López-Alt author of The Food Lab and chief culinary advisor of SeriousEats.com)“This is THE cookbook for the modern generation. Every recipe is smart, sensible—but completely mouthwatering. Healthyish is a delight for all senses, but not the fleeting kind—you’ll be turning to this book for decades.” (Sarah Copeland author of Feast and The Newlywed Cookbook)“Healthyish is a gorgeous book full of easy to execute recipes and clever, practical advice for how to cook in the world we actually live in, not just the world we want to live in. For anyone looking for clean, delicious, good-for-you eating (sans maca powder), this book is for you.” (Alison Roman author of Dining In)“In Healthyish, Lindsay achieves the balance so many of us are looking for. The move toward healthier eating can seem daunting, or somehow difficult, but here there is a bolstering cheeriness on every page. Her sensible, totally doable recipes are still vibrant and all-out tempting—the Pozole with Pinto Beans and Queso Fresco is the stuff of dreams. But what’s more, Lindsay pairs those dishes with thoughtful and thorough lessons on basic framework recipes or principles, and it’s that foundation that will make the difference in so many kitchens and in the way we eat.” (Tara O’Brady author of Seven Spoons)

Thank you Lindsay Maitland Hunt. This is a great cookbook -- it has beautiful pictures and a chatty, sensible vibe. You show us that cooking healthy food that tastes good is achievable. The cooking directions are clear and I like the suggestions for sensible shortcuts (e.g. use a rotisserie chicken from the market). Since it arrived, I've already made a number of recipes--I've even made the Red Lentil soup twice! This book has earned a place on my shelf of 'frequently used cookbooks'. Several of the recipes provide great ideas and tips/techniques that are transferable. The Cauliflower Frittata is a great weeknight supper, and I love the technique of using just one pan. This can be applied to other frittatas as well! The Arctic Char and Cucumber/Radish salad is a great combination, and the salad would be delicious with other roasted meat or fish. The buckwheat bars are a tasty treat. Finally, this book features a comprehensive index in a type font that is easy to read. The separate 'special diet' indexes are really helpful. They make it easy to find recipes that are gluten-free, dairy-free or vegetarian.
This cookbook is a game-changer. As someone who generally finds meal planning, grocery shopping and recipe-execution overwhelming, I am so grateful and excited to now have Healthyish as my go-to cookbook.
I pre-ordered this cookbook for my husband and it arrived last week. First thing I can say is wow—we can and will easily make everything in this book. It is perfect for having easy, healthy weeknight meals and provides tips for flavor combos and kitchen staples.I’ve noticed lower reviews not understanding the purpose of this book and critique the recipes for being too simple. This book provides a wide variety of recipes that are simple but also have unique flavor pairings. It’s the perfect balance of simplicity and complexity for a week-night home cook, and is a nice addition to our collection.
This cookbook is truly beautiful and a great source for meal inspiration! The recipes are simple and do-able for day-to-day meals, snacks, and treats. The recipes have pretty quick prep and cook times, and don't call for long lists of ingredients. This book offers so many ideas for healthy, well-balanced meals--I appreciate the emphasis on whole grains, fruits and veggies, and healthy proteins. What a great addition to my cookbook library!
As both a cookbook writer and an avid cookbook collector, Healthyish is a most welcomed addition to my shelves. In choosing a new cookbooks, no easy task, I look for detailed clearly written instructions, and ones that giving metric measurements. as well as alternatives within the same recipe. Thank you Lindsay for having both in Healthyish. In one book you get wide range of recipes all with a very manageable list of ingredients. I particularly like the fish and shrimp chapter geared towards making any cook comfortable with fish. A great addition to either a small collection or large collection of cookbooks.
My favorite part of this is the breakfasts! I like to have a good warm breakfast in the morning and this gave me some new combos that I'd never though of and now eat CONSTANTLY! Even my 6 year old asks for it. I'm not a cookbook person, I usually just scour the internet or go for a tried and true recipe but this book is a keeper!
I was desperate for a cookbook that wasn't based on a diet, just real food that was healthy and I definitely found it! I've made 11 of the recipes and everything has been delicious. Easy to prepare (if you don't mind chopping and stirring things together) and quick cooking or baking. To me this is just healthy food. To my husband it's fancy! That works for me! There are some vegetarian recipes if you're looking for that. Some really great, filling soups, too.
I absolutely love this book! I have made so many recipes in the few weeks I've had it. Everything is so quick and easy!
