**SPOILER FREE review**What a fabulous, sigh worthy, at times hysterical and other times rip my heart out brilliant sequel! Cassie has a talent for toying with not only her character's emotions, but her readers's ones as well and boy does she know how to make me laugh, sigh, cry, break my heart & make me fall in love with her characters. With Cassie's writing I'm not just connected with her story, but I find myself completely immersed with her storyline, her world building, her characters and the setting. Cassie has a way of making everything she writes about feel real and lively. While I'm reading her book I feel like I've been transported to Victorian London for an unforgettable adventure with Will, Jem and Tessa. Clockwork Prince is definitely one of those unforgettable stories fans won't be able to forget. With it's twists, heart break, betrayal, love and so much more.Big sigh. I am in love with Cassie's characters. They're so well developed that I feel like I'm reading a story about people I know. I love how invested she allows me to become with Will, Jem, Tessa, Magnus and each of the characters from Clockwork Prince. Each of their stories come to life and intertwine so beautifully. Their emotions, their thoughts and the motives for their actions are incredibly realistic and engaging. I loved seeing how this series ties in with The Mortal Instrument Series, with the Lightwoods and Wayland families, as well as Magnus and a couple other names that will be familiar to fans who have read City of Glass. Oh Magnus, I didn't think I could love him any more than I already did.There's so much I want to say about Will, Jem and Tessa. Can their stories get any more heartbreakingly beautiful? Their are the type of characters you can't help but love despite knowing that something is going to happen to one of them that will rip your heart out and leave you wondering how you could have so helplessly fallen in love with them. At the same time you wouldn't trade feeling that way even if you had known the outcome. These are characters that you laugh with, cry with, sigh in frustration over, get mad at and in the end love them for who they are, despite some of their not so stellar moments.Tessa is a true heroine is every aspect of the word. She continues to be my favorite female character. She's strong, independent, and one of the most trusting, and forgiving characters who has a way of seeing the good in people who don't see it in themselves. She is loving, and courageous. She's intelligent and witty, and she's my all time favorite heroine. Her character growth in Clockwork Prince is so beautifully written. Jem and Will match her growth perfectly. The are so well written, and after finishing this story they've now claimed the number one spot for my all time favorite love triangle, moving Jace and Clary to second place. That's saying a lot.Clockwork Prince is my FAVORITE of all of Cassie's books. This surpassed all of my expectations and in true Cassie form, completely surprised me with her twists. She gave me answers to questions I had from Clockwork Angel, and left me with more questions for Clockwork Princess. She gave me romance, plenty of sarcasm, wit, plenty of laugh out loud moments, one liners that have become some of my favorite quotes, moments that made me cry that were either joyous ones or ones of utter heartbreak. She again gave me a believable world where Shadowhunters and Downworlders really do exist, and her Victorian London is a place I could really go visit.I can not possibly list all the things I love about this book. Cassie is a phenomenal writer. Her awe inspiring, beautifully crafted, and engrossing talent for writing a series that's complex, and simple. It's a perfect blend of historical, steampunk and paranormal, that leaves me more than satisfied and wanting so much more. It's bloody brilliant! This book is dare I say it, a perfect steampunk, paranormal, YA read! This is beyond a 5 star book for me. I HIGHLY recommend picking this book up! In fact, be like us and pick up a few copies. However, what they have found is even more betrayal.I love this series, but the love triangle just hurts my soul so much! You all know how much I despise love triangles, they are messy, and the one in this one... I hurt. I just love Jem and Will both for different reasons and... love triangles suck, okay? And what hurts even more is the brotherly love Will and Jem have towards each other. They have these deep, emotional conversations that just make me want to cry, but those conversations show how much love they have for one another. And the thing is, they never really fight over Tessa. Neither one of them would do that. I particularly love how sweet Will is towards Jem because it shows he’s not all bad. Speaking of which, we learn why he’s been such a jerk all these years and keeping everyone who try to care for him at arm’s length... except Jem, that is. It’s all incredibly sad and I felt so awful for him! My poor Will! And as Wills draws farther away from Tessa because of reasons, she and Jem start to grow closer. Jem is the sweetest thing ever and I adore him to pieces! He and Tessa share some intimate moments that just melt your heart! I really do love him, but as much as I do, I actually feel like Tessa belongs with Will. There’s something big that goes down in the book the surprised the hell out of me, and while I wasn’t into it, I’m happy that Jem is happy.As for Tessa, I really like her and totally feel for her and what she’s going through. Being plunged into this whole other world and realizing you’re not even human is not easy for her to grasp. We still don't know exactly what Tessa is. In the last book it was though she might be a warlock, but she doesn’t have a mark, so that’s unlikely. In this book we do get some little hints toward what she could possibly be, but nothing confirmed yet.As for the other characters, I have totally fallen in love with them too! Magnus, of course, is a favorite across all of the series! He is so funny, caring, and just so much fun to be around! Magnus’s friend Scott Woosley is another character I enjoyed getting to know—he is so funny! And Charlotte and Henry have this super cute moment that shows how much they care for one another, and it was just really sweet! The Lightwoods is another story, which is totally shocking because I love the Lightwoods, Alec and Izzy, from TMI. But in this series I can see why Will is not a fan of the Lightwoods. I can see why Gabriel is the way be is. But I like that Gideon is changing and seeing things for what they really are, not seeing them for how his dad is telling him how to see them. Speaking of... Gideon and Sophie... yes please! There is definitely some chemistry there and I am just so happy for Sophie! I really hope something comes out of this chemistry.As for Jessie, she’s a real piece of work. I liked her and enjoyed the bickering between her and everyone else at the institute—I thought it was quite funny, but I also really feel for her because she grew up in the Shadowhunter world without say about her future in it. So I get why she’s so bitter about it, I really do. But she does something so idiotic and selfish—I just couldn’t believe it!And speaking of idiotic, Nate is back and crazier than ever! He is seriously more insane than I thought he was! It wasn’t enough to betray his sister, but then he goes and does something even worse! The worst part is, I can understand why he does some of these things and why he is so mad. But it does not excuse his actions.We also learn a bit more about Will’s family and we find out which of the character’s in this series is an ancestor to Clary from TMI!Clockwork Prince was an amazing, heartbreaking sequel filled with equally amazing characters! Of course, after reading TMI, why am I even surprised that I loved this, lol. How much do I love this book? So much! I am very excited to see how things wrap up for all of these beloved characters.
I'd actually forgotten that I'd read this one before until I read it again today and remembered different scenes from the book and remembered my anger the first time I read the novel which was why I still haven't read the third book, though I'm planning to today or tomorrow now that I've come back to the series. I've always been very team Will in this series so when everything went so wrong between them in the last book and she seems to move on to Jem in this book I was so angry.Reading the book a second time I can really feel for Tessa as she's torn between the two characters loving them both for their likeness to each other and their vast differences. Yeah their love story is a little different and at times she might come across as a little wishy washy as she goes back and forth between WIll and Jem, but it is actually really clear that she does love both of them, immensely. I loved getting to know Sophie better and the insights into Charlotte and Henry. I especially loved the scenes with Magnus Bane and Wolsey Scott. These two characters as just a delight to encounter.So while I might not have given it as a high of a rating had I taken the time to review it the first time I read it, I definitely think it deserves a four star rating now. It's an excellent book filled with all the elements present in Clockwork Angel and an Amazing read.
