About the Author
Livia Bitton-Jackson, born Elli L. Friedmann in Czechoslovakia, was thirteen when she, her mother, and her brother were taken to Auschwitz. They were liberated in 1945 and came to the United States on a refugee boat in 1951. She received a PhD in Hebrew culture and Jewish history from New York University. Dr. Bitton-Jackson has been a professor of history at City University of New York for thirty-seven years. Her previous books include Elli: Coming of Age in the Holocaust, which received the Christopher Award, the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award, and the Jewish Heritage Award. Dr. Bitton-Jackson lives in Israel with her husband, children, and grandchildren.

This book is the second of a trilogy by this author, who is a Holocaust survivor who now lives in Israel. In my opinion, this volume was the best of the series. The trilogy was written in simple language, suitable for a young reader to understand and enjoy. I highly recommend the trilogy to anyone with an interest in either this historic period or the travails of living life amidst considerable stress and turmoil. I'm very pleased that Amazon.com has made it available.
What a great book...after reading her first "I Have Lived a Thousand Years" I couldn't wait to read another book by Livia...she captivates me with every word and I just love how she writes. I love her spirit and tenacity and faith and her desire and drive to be better in this crazy world. She is am amazing person...can't wait to read her next one! I would recommend this to anyone! One of my favorite books of all time.
This is a story of survival under such inhuman circumstances. The power of the will to live comes through every page of her story.
I learned a lot of history of the people who survived the Holocaust, and dire circumstances that the Russians with the Iron Curtain created for these people who had suffered so much, then being thrust from so many newly rezoned countries.
Loved her first book, I Have Lived a Thousand Years; Found this sequel hard to get through, though, and did not hold my attention.
Second book in her Holocaust trilogy. All three should be read, starting with I Have Lived a Thousand Years. Book arrived ibn perfect condigtion
Very good book. I'm ashamed to have to say that I had no idea how much the Jewish people continued to suffer after WW11.
